The facts
The five events are the World Juniors in Canada (26 December 2026–5 January 2027), women's under-18s in Czechia (8–16 January), men's under-18s in the US (22 April–2 May), men's worlds in Germany (14–30 May), and women's worlds in Canada in November 2027. [1]
The unanimous panel set aside the IIHF decision immediately. It did not establish a neutrality regime or decide organizational consequences, which were outside the appeal. Written grounds for case CAS/A/12753 are still to follow. [1]
The IIHF said it would comply but disputed the assessment and maintained its safety concerns. It warned that formats, schedules, travel, accommodation and security arrangements require coordination with organizers and host authorities. [2][3]
Relevant context
Russian teams have been excluded from IIHF championships since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. This ruling concerns the specified hockey competitions; it does not restore eligibility across all sports. [1][2][3]
Still unconfirmed
- The final participation arrangements, including flags, anthem, clothing, tournament formats and detailed security measures, were not established.
