The facts
The flaw affects SSL remote-access VPN configurations using secondary authentication. An attacker does not need to complete a successful VPN login to trigger the denial of service. [1][2]
Cisco’s 28 October advisory says it learned of exploitation in October. The documented impact is denial of service; it does not establish code execution or stolen data. [1][2]
ASA fixes depend on the release branch: 9.16.4.104, 9.18.4.96, 9.20.4.50, 9.22.3.200, 9.23.1.48, and 9.24.1.27 or 9.24.10.1 are listed as first fixed releases. [1]
Listed FTD fixes are 7.0.11, 7.2.13, 7.4.9, 7.6.7, 7.7.14, 10.0.3 and 10.1.1. Cisco says there is no workaround and recommends fixed software; administrators should check its branch-specific table. [1]
CISA added CVE-2026-76418 to its exploited-vulnerability catalog on 29 October, listing a 1 November remediation date. It directs applicable US federal civilian agencies to follow BOD 26-04's risk-based requirements; this is not a universal legal deadline. [3][4]
Still unconfirmed
- The attackers’ identities, number of victims and full extent of exploitation have not been established.
Corrections & updates
Update: Added CISA's 29 October exploited-vulnerability listing and its 1 November catalog remediation date, with the scope of the federal risk-based requirements. The documented vulnerability remains denial of service, not established code execution.
